The Academies Act passed in July 2010 enables all schools to become academies. Those schools which are judged by Ofsted to be outstanding or good with outstanding features are automatically eligible to apply for academy status.
The major responsibilities will include admissions – ensuring compliance with admissions legislation and guidance; premises – health and safety, capital building support, details of construction industry law.
